Hi ,
How's your blogging week been?
It's a stormy old day here at ProBlogger HQ - the kind of day that makes you feel like crawling back into the warm comfort of your bed, just listening to the sound of rain outside.
But I was inspired by this old saying you may have heard “There is no bad weather, only
bad clothes!”. Which isn't just about throwing on a jacket, it's a mindset shift from letting the conditions dictate your behaviour.
I actually looked up the origins of this saying up and apparently it's Norwegian (which has a pretty cold, inhospitable climate). And then I found this article talking about health psychology research studies demonstrating that the mental framing of stressful events dramatically influences how we respond to such events.
The study showed that
people living further North in Norway (colder, darker in Winter) displayed a more positive mindset than their more Southerly countrymen and therefore, were able to avoid SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Further demonstrating that we cope better if we consciously reframe hardships or setbacks as challenges.
Our actions may be impeded … but there can be no impeding our intentions or our dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.
